On Friday night 27 November, over 200 people gathered at the Roebourne Amphitheatre for a community event that showcased the talent of Ieramargadu’s young people.
The event was the official launch of Smashed Films, a 4 months project funded by Mawarnkarra Health Service and run by Big hART where young people have written, filmed and starred in their own films – which are tackling the big issues in their lives, particularly around alcohol and nutrition.
The event itself was a fusion of a Hollywood film premiere and Roebourne-style community celebration, with a red carpet, photography, a photo booth and delicious food including damper, roo tails, popcorn and homemade frozen fruit cups.
The night was hosted by the young people involved in the films, and included live music, cultural dancing, and an awards ceremony as well as a behind the scenes look at how Smashed films were made. Awards included a film internship with Weerianna Street Media and acting coaching with IF Foundation.
A huge thank you to all the people and organsiation who made the night possible, and congratulations to all the 47 young people involved with the films!
